Welcome to Valentines Week here at Craizee Corners! I thought I would live up to my name and really get 'Craizee' this week. I have some valentines projects to show you and in plenty of time to get your Valentine projects done.
And what would a special week be without a special way to win some wonderful V-Day fabric of your own? Fat Quarter Shop has graciously given me a FQ set of Darling Heart Garden to give away!
Isn't this fabric yummy? But this is not the only V-Day fabric that Fat Quarter Shop has, there's several other lines so be sure to check it out.
Today's V-Week project is a mug rug. I love mug rugs and I am in several swaps so this one will be going to someone special.
Love Braids
You will need
1 - 3 1/2" square white
2 - 2" x 3 1/2" rectangles each of dark pink, white, light pink and red. (Piece A)
4 - 2" squares of red
2 - 2" x 14" of red
1. Sew a red 2" square to 1 dark pink 2" x 3 1/2" rectangles (piece A). Press towards the dark pink. Repeat with 1 white, light pink and red. These will be called piece B.
Note - All seams are pressed away from the 3 1/2" square from now on. I finger pressed everything until the end.
2. Sew a dark pink piece A to one side of the White 3 1/2" square.
3. Sew the dark pink piece B, that you just made, to the adjoining side of the square.
4. Add the white piece A, starting at the red square point. Sew it to the same side as the dark pink piece A.
5. Add the White piece B the same way as in step 3.
6. Continue adding the other 2 sets of pieces until all 4 are added.
7. Press the mug rug now. Here's a pic of what the back should look like.
8. Now it's time to trim the mug rug. Line up the ruler 1/4" away from where the 2 pieces meet, which should be where the inside point is (where the seam ripper is pointing. Do this on both sides.
9. Sew a 2" x 14" red rectangle onto each long side. Start sewing with a 1" overhang so you have room to trim. Press
10. Trim the excess off of all diagonal corners. Use the corner of the square as a guide to make sure the angle is correct. Line up a line on the ruler with the bottom straight edge of the mug rug and line the right side edge of the ruler with the right side of the square. Trim all 4 pieces this way.
11. Quilt and bind as normal.
Easy right?
Now for the giveaway!
To win the FQ Bundle of Darling Heart Garden you must be a follower, but you do not get an entry for that, it's just a pre-requisite.
1. Go to the Fat Quarter Shop Valentines page and tell me which FQ set you like the best.
2. Tell me your favorite valentines memory.
There you go 2 ways to enter!
Entries will be accepted until Friday January 27th at 11:59 pm. Mr. Random will pick a winner on Saturday morning once my coffee has kicked in.
If you would like to tweet, facebook or blog about this I'd love it too. Spread the word...the more the merrier. Although I would love it if you helped me spread the word, you do not get an entry for it. You will get my thanks :)
Come back tomorrow to see another V-Week project.
I love all the Valentine prints-- but really LOVE that little touch of aqua in Smitten (love the name too! :-) Thank you for the chance to win and for the tutorial on the pretty little braid mug rug!! CUTE!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteFavorite Valentine's memory.... I think that would be making Valentine decorated sugar cookies with my girls when they were young and still at home... They've all grown up and moved away now... well, I *do* still have *one* at home, but she's in college now... Thank you for the giveaway! :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the Chemistry set. :) I'm a follower.
ReplyDeleteFavorite Valentine's memory - hmmm - not sure. But I remember the fun of decorating a shoebox to hold Valentines from classmates in elementary school.
ReplyDeleteI like Smitten as well. There is something special about that name. :-)
ReplyDeleteI remember the Valentine my Father took me to the Spaghetti Dinner my Brownie Troop had. I was so proud to be there with him.
ReplyDeleteI think chemistry is my fave. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI like the Always and Forever collection.
ReplyDeleteAll through elementary school, we made boxes to contain valentines. My mom was pretty clever and helped us make some cute things. I still remember a frog with a giant mouth that I made out of a large Quaker Oats container. Maybe Valentine boxes were where I got my crafting start.
ReplyDeleteI’m smitten with Smitten, possibly because of the aqua touch, but also the cute birds (I’m like a poster child for "put a bird on it").
ReplyDeleteI’m glad you’re hosting this week… I really need to get started on my valentine for my partner in the Gen Q mag Valentine swap!
Always & Forever Passion Pink Is probably my fav as I am just a pink kind of a girl! My sewing room is Pink, pink with white cabinets!! But the aqua is my next fav as most of my house has that color in it.
ReplyDeleteSmitten has me smitten. And the scraps wouldn't scream holiday if put into something else, which is always a bonus!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Valentine's memory would be my first VDay with my husband- he was deployed in Iraq, but sent me a beautiful heart-shaped black and white diamond pendant. I had told him not to bother with anything, so it was quite the surprise!
ReplyDeleteChemistry is my favorite although they are all awesome. I love V-day. My husband doesn't usually remember but I love to surprise him. One year I took a whole bunch of balloons and filled his truck cab. Then I taped I love you letters all over the windshield. He was embarrassed but loved it. Of course it was at his work so all the guys teased him about it for days.
ReplyDeleteChemistry is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI really like Smitten Fat Quarter Bundle
ReplyDeleteBarb Tourtillotte. My favorite V-Day is when my children saved their money and bought me a huge Heart shaped box of Heart of chocolates. They were so excited to give it to me and also to open the box and preceed to eat half of them.
I love the Always and Forever fabric collection. I've already bought a few fat quarters.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Valentine's day memory was a few years ago. We were supposed to go out to dinner, but had a blizzard! So we sat by a roaring fire instead. I really liked that one.
ReplyDeleteGreat Mug Rug!! My favorite FQ set is Smitten :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite memory/thing to do at Valentine's day is making valentines with my daughter! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI love the always and forever collection!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Valentine's day memory was last year. My daughter and I made a surprise visit to Fort Sill in Oklahoma to visit my husband. We had such a great time, it was so nice to see him again (it had been since Christmas).
ReplyDeleteI love valentin prints: Mindig és Mindörökké White Chocolate kavarog a szeretet yardage
ReplyDeleteMy favorite valentine memory of my husband when we were skiing in Italy. Thank you playing.
ReplyDeleteof all the fine fat quarter bundles, the best is the
ReplyDeleteAlways & Forever Petite Fat Quarter Bundle.
fav valentines memory ... helping my cub scouts make and decorate big heart trivets for their moms [i got one, too!]
ReplyDeleteI really like the Always & Forever stack. Although the one you chose for your mug rug is great too. Thanks for the tutorial & the give away.
ReplyDeleteI like the Always and Forever pack. In fact I bought some over this last weekend and posted about them http://richardquilts.blogspot.com/2012/01/some-one-hide-my-cc.html They are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteMy first Valentine with my wife we were both still in school I got her one of those cheap roses from 7-eleven but I bought it like a week earlier. (as a gag) Then I bought a dozen long steam roses and put them in our apt. When I picked my wife up from school I gave her the rose (half dead) and told her happy valentines she tried to tell me it was beautiful even though it was crap. The smile when she saw the real roses was priceless.

My favorite is Chemistry Fat Quarter Bundle
ReplyDeleteCosmo Cricket for Moda Fabrics. Thanks for the giveaway!
Favorite Valentine's memory - decorating shoe boxes in school for Valentine mail boxes.
ReplyDeleteWell, let's just say that if you work out the dates backwards from my son's due date, Valentines Day 2009 was preeeety special ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the Smitten range! The pretty little birdies and the splashes of blue :)
ReplyDeletelove the chemistry fabric if i had to choose only one set
ReplyDeletethe card my daughter made for me in November that said "be my valintin" on the front and "happy mommy day" on the inside
ReplyDeleteI really like the Always & Forever line :)
ReplyDeleteMy favourite Valentine's Day memory is from last year... the kids and I decided to make a homemade card where we traced around each of our hands onto 12x12 scrapbooking card, cut them out and then mounted another piece of card behind it. We then wrote all the reasons why we love my husband/their dad and decorated it with die cut hearts and stickers.
ReplyDeleteWe used the hand cutouts to each write a personal valentine - the kids wrote one to each grandmother and I wrote another one to my husband. 12 months later the recipients still have them on display.. the one with all three of our hands gets comments from friends who come over, too!
I like the Chemistry FQ set!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy making valentines cards with my daughters class at school!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is Smitten, but there were many lovely lines of prints for Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteI still remember the year my Mom made handmade cards for all of my kids with felt and lace, and then embroidered them.
ReplyDeleteI also like chemistry fq
ReplyDeleteMy real favorite valentine days are from kindergarten to about 2nd grade. we shopped and decorated and made valentine boxes to store and receive valentines. then opened them and ate the treats at our grade school parties. Hallmark and 1-800 flowers were not involved the whole day was great and no one was ever disappointed.
I love SMITTEN, and all of the Valentine's FQ sets are adorable!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway chance!

My favorite Valentine's Day memory is when my DH and I were dating (married 42 years this year!) and he took me to a sweetheart banquet at the church. So, so fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway chance!

I like them all.. So I could not choose. My favorite Valentines memory and we still laugh about it....when my husband and I first got married we did not have a lot of money. We had to save every penny we could. We also were working night shift so everything was like in a blur to us. That year he told me Happy Valentines day and I said the same to him. I did not care if I got flowers or cards from the store.. he was my present. Usually he made me a handmade card as he still does! Well the next day after Valentines day we had to go to the store for something and they had named brand boxes of candy half price. He told me "PICK ONE"! I looked at him and burst out laughing. We have been married now 25 years and I still get my handwritten cards and wait until the day after to get my candy at 1/2 price and sometimes even later at 75 percent off! Yes we can afford now to pay regular price but why when you can wait.. It does not matter to me about receiving it on the 14th. I have a Valentine all year long with him. He is a blessing and I call him my gift from God!! This February 15th I will be getting my 1/2 price box of Valentines Candy and it will taste just as good as if I got it the day before when I get my handmade card!!! Thanks for making me think of my favorite valentine memory.
ReplyDeleteI love always and forever! My favorite memory would be my engagement in 2008!! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite is "Smitten", but "Dazzling Heart Garden" is a close second. :o) Thank you for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete(Oops, sorry about the double post of my first comment. I deleted the second one. Hope that worked...)
ReplyDeleteAs for my favorite Valentine's Day memory... Nothing specific comes to mind, since it's not a "big" holiday for us-- but I always feel particularly fortunate to have my dear husband on that day, and I do have fond memories of filling out paper valentines for all my classmates, back in elementary school. :o)
Thank you for the chance to win!
Just spending time with my DH is a favorite Valentine's Day for me.
ReplyDeleteI am really liking Lush.
ReplyDeleteAlways and Forever gets my vote hands down. My favorite memory for Valentines Day would have to be when I received the gold charm for my bracelet shaped like a stop sign that read, "I'll never stop loving you."
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Valentine's Day memory was making fortune cookies for a Valenties's Day dinner and stuffing them all with variations of the same phrase which told my boyfriend the answer to his marriage proposal. Obviously, the answer was "Yes!" It was fun to see the look on his face when he was trying to figure out what a fortune like "Tonight will change your life forever" meant.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Valentine memories are when my children made special cards for me in school and they were so proud of them. I still have them in a box and will always treasure the love that went into making the Valentines.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Peggy

I went to the Fat Quarter Shop and love the Smitten line!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Valentine's Day memory is really several-I loved shopping with the kids for their Valentines when they gave them out to all of their classmates while in elementary school! Such good times!
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower, here (A Family Deal) and on twitter (GreatDealPhoto). Looking forward to looking at all the info here.
ReplyDeleteI love FatQuarterShop and the Smitten line is my favorite for Valentines Day. Although they are all great!

Michelle
My favorite Valentine memory...like quilterliz, it was so special when my boys were young helping them with thier Valentines and seeing how thier faces were so alight with the ones they recieved!
ReplyDeleteI like them all but I guess I will say Beloved Heart Garden (but would be soooooo happy to win the Daring collection, too!). Thanks for the great giveaway!!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Valentine's memory was from High School when my ex-boyfriend gave me a red carnation from a fundraiser (red = love) and my current boyfriend just gave me a pink one. I guess the pressure worked because I have been happily married to the giver of the pink carnation for just over 25 years!
ReplyDeleteThough all of them are charming, I especially like Smitten. It's the birds; I'm a typical Oregonian that way. :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite memory is of the years when my sister would send packages with homemade Valentines from her kids. So sweet.
ReplyDeleteAlways and forever collection :)
ReplyDeleteMe and my best friends used to wear pink clothes during this V day. We will gifted each of us the same V present :), so everyone will get a same present from the same person :)
ReplyDeleteChemistry - defiintely Chemistry.
ReplyDeleteMy fav memory is the first Valentine card I got from my now husband. I've still got it somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI think my favorite one is the Smitten FQ bundle or the Darling Heart Garden bundle. I can't really decide.
ReplyDeleteOne fav Valentine memory was in high school. My boyfriend (who was a very macho, farm boy type) took a leg off of a pair of his jeans and sewed it into a bag complete with grommets and ribbon closure and filled it with a bunch of hershey's kisses. There was other stuff and even a handmade a card, etc. I just loved it because I've always been into handmade, even back then. He took the time and trouble to sew and get artsy craftsy. LOL! It may not have been perfectly sewn, but it was thoughtful at the very least. You know a person cares when they make you something.
ReplyDeleteBy the way thanks for all the tutorials, and a chance to win this lovely fabric!
My favorite is Smitten :) Love it!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite memory is when I spent Valentine's Day baking cookies for a care package I was sending to this soldier I had met the month before - he was stationed in Germany and I lived in California. 8 months later I married that soldier - and he still loves my cookies!
ReplyDeleteLOve your mug rug! I am adding it to my faves so I can give it a try! My favorite Valentine's day memory was my senior year in College. My roommates and I all made several different batches of cookies, then swapped. We each had huge baskets of cookies to take to our families for the holiday. Then, when I returned my BF--now my DH---had been let into the apartment where he left this HUGE stuffed teddy on my bed...and a beautiful vase of flowers on my desk. It was a wonderful surprise!
ReplyDeleteI love Smitten. The turquoise mixed in with the reds and pinks--love!
ReplyDeleteI quite adore the Smitten line :-) always a fan of turquoise as you can tell by my wardrobe lol.
ReplyDeleteI don't really have any Valentine's Day memory as we choose not to acknowledge it as a holiday as it seems so hallmarked... I appreciate things that my husband does for me whenever he does it :-) IT's more of a surprise that way... like he surprised me with a blue topaz and diamond necklace!
I love Smitten and Darling Heart Garden Such cuteness! :)
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Valentine's Day memory is the first Valentine's Day I got to share to share with my son! We made him a Valentine mailbox and made footprint t-shirts for his grandparents. :) Thank you for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI'm liking the Chemistry line
ReplyDeletemy favorite valentines was our first- i did all the planning to suprise him- he was out of town until that evening- i set a hotel, candles, sushi, chocolate strawberries & orchids. it was nice to see him suprised.
ReplyDeleteI think that Smitten is my favorite! I use to love Valentine's Day parties at the elementary school. All those cards and sweets to enjoy! Thank you for the chance to win this lovely giveaway.
ReplyDeletei like the two "it's a girl thing" prints!
ReplyDeletefavorite valentine memory? i love the kid's party at the school! everyone decorates their own box, and they have fun passing out their treats.
ReplyDeleteI love the Chemistry fat quarter bundle. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite Valentine memory- I was 13 years old and went to the same high school as my 17 year old brother. One of the school clubs sold carnations for $2 which included them putting a tag on it and delivering it to the person of your choice. I was shocked beyond belief when my brother had a carnation delivered to me in my homeroom. Twenty years later, I still think mom put him up to it but they both swear he did it of his own accord. Either way, I won't ever forget it!
ReplyDeleteSmitten red bustling boquet is my fav!
ReplyDeleteFavorite Valentines Day Memory is yet to be - This Valentines will be the greatest, I plan to buy all the stuff to make a homemade heart shaped pizza with out little family, I cannot wait!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite has got to be Always and Forever the colors are so clear...........Favorite Valentines memory was the 1st after our son was born. I got cards from him and only him until he was old enough to think it was icky to give Mom a valentine. Hubby has since made up for that. :)
ReplyDeleteI took a look, and they are all so nice. I love pink! My favorite is Smitten. Thank you Sharon and thank you to FQS for sponsoring the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any special valentines memories. But I do have some awesome vintage valentines that I love looking at every year.
ReplyDeleteI went to FQS and looked at their Valentines fabric. What a nice selection. I like the Darling Heart Garden and I'm alittle smitten with Smitten.
ReplyDeleteThank you and FQS for your giveaway and a chance to win.

My story is when my now husband first started sending me flowers, he'd send three red roses. He said that three stood for "I Love You". One time I received six roses and he said that meant "I Love You, I Love You". So I was curious when one time I received five red roses. My husband had the flowers delivered and they got the order wrong. Should have been six and not five roses but my husband said it still worked, "I Love You Very Much".
ReplyDeleteAgain, Thank you and FQS for the giveaway and a chance to win. I love your mug rug. Nice pattern and a change from the square ones.

Whew! This window shopping can be dangerous. Which valentines fabric don't I like! My favorite is Darling Heart Garden, but also really like the Smitten. With it's mix of love birds and baby's breath prints, how can you go wrong? LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteLoved making thick fluffy heart sugar cookies with my mother, and getting the frosting just the RIGHT color of pink! Thank you for organizing the giveaway and giving us an opportunity to reflect on our past v-days!
ReplyDeleteI would love to have Smitten. So pretty. My favorite color is red. Thanks Sharon for the giveaway and tutorials.
ReplyDeleteI remember the year my parents gave my sister and me a Strawberry Shortcake glass and pitcher set. We loved Strawaberry Shortcake. I wished I still had it.
ReplyDeleteI love the "Chemistry" fabrics.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway
Nifty RugMug
Greatest V-Day memory. Was picking up my BF at the
ReplyDeleteairport and just after he got off his plane (in the
waiting area) he got down on one knee, proffered the
ring and asked me to marry him. He was too excited
to wait any longer. He hasn't changed a bit. I get
Birthday presents way too early, etc.
Very cute tutorial and yummy fabrics too. I already am thinking of a fun project to create with them.
ReplyDeleteFavorite memory: When I was in college my mother sent me a care package for Valentine's Day. Inside of the package were some pink erasers in the shape of hearts. While she is no longer here, I still have those erasers and will treasure them always. Sometimes the little gestures make the greatest memories.

As for My Favorite Valentine Memory...
ReplyDeleteYears ago I spotted a project that I HAD to make for my wife. It was a combination of Cross Stitching, Ribbon Weaving, and Knot Tying. It took me two months of lunch hours to make it. She could not know about it, so it lived in a plastic bin in my trunk and I would work on it my car at lunch time.
I then took it to a frame shop and the lady helped me design the perfect frame for it. My wife was blown away, she had no idea I was working on it, and to this day it hangs on our wall.
Thanks for the Opportunity to Win!

I think Chemistry is my favourite Valentine's line at FQS, although I could definitely use Darling Heart Garden! Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite valentine memory?

Although he had won them in a raffle at work!
I love Smitten. And Darling Heart Garden. Both are so sweet!!
ReplyDeleteFav V-Day memory - coming home to Brownies and roses. He tried so hard!! <3
ReplyDeleteChemistry by Cosmos Crickets is my fav!
ReplyDeleteMaybe this is sad but I don't have a great Valentine's memory not that I didn't have nice ones just not one that is better than the rest. You know what that means is that my best one is yet to be!
ReplyDeleteSmitten is gorgeous! :)
ReplyDeleteSmitten is gorgeous! :)
ReplyDeleteI like the smitten set best, I've been on an aqua kick lately. I also like the chemistry set though!
ReplyDeleteI love the rich reds of Bordeaux Alexandra Fat Quarter bundle.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite valentine's memory is from when I was a kid. Each year my parents would get my brother and I some candy and a couple small gifts, then they would write down clues on paper and we'd have to do a scavenger hunt to find our goodies. I loved the scavenger hunts and trying to figure out the clues.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite memory would be that my sweet hubby proposed (actually on the 10th because he said EVERYONE does it on the 14th) But it was the BEST Valentines ever :-)
ReplyDeleteSmitten is gorgeous! :)
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to choose, but I think I like Darling Heart Garden the best. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI think it would have to be Smitten, but they are all so nice.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was working at the LQS my DH sent me a beautiful Valentine's Day flower arrangement one year. It was delivered to the retail shop and I worked in the back. Of course when all of us in the back saw the flowers we all swooned, hopeful that it was for one of us. I felt so special as I was the "older" worker.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is Chemistry Fat Quarter Bundle Cosmo Cricket for Moda Fabrics. :)
ReplyDeleteWhen my hubby (but back then my bf) gave me a carnation bouquet for our first valentines day. It was so unexpected and the flowers lasted forever! :)
ReplyDeleteAny of the Pear Tree bundles work for me. Thanks for the chance at your giveaway.
ReplyDeleteA favorite Valentine's memory was the year I made a heart shaped Valentine's meal for my husband and kids. Everything from the meatload, and muffins to the mashed potatoes and chocolate was heart shaped. Made and served with love! Thanks for a chance ay your giveaway.
ReplyDelete
