Twister Quilt-Along

A few months ago a friend of mine from Quilt Sitters at The Berry Patch in Fort Worth showed me a quilt that she made with one of these rulers.

You all know how I love rulers, I knew I just had to have these. And you know how I have been wanting to make something scrappy? I think this is the perfect first step for me to take in my scrappiness journey.

So how about joining me? All you need is a layercake and 1 1/4 yard of fabric for a border and the big ruler or a charm pack and 1/2 yard of fabric for a border and the lil twister ruler. I ordered mine from The Fat Quarter Shop and with how fast they ship you would have the ruler in no time at all.

This Quilt Along will start on Feb 12th and will run for 4 weeks.

So how about it, are you ready to do the twist?

  1. I will be joining you, I have a few charm and layer cakes that are just hanging around, so I ordered the rulers. I like scrappy and it should be fun.

  2. I'll join you. I already have the tool but I have never used it. I'll find a layer cake and border fabric and I'll be ready to go.

  3. I've made several of these twister quilts and they are fun! Great choice for a scrappy quilt too. I may do the quilt along if I don't already have too many things going for February.

  4. When I was on vacation I saw one of these that finished at 2" - I am kicking myself for not buying it! I have both these rulers but have only used the small one so far.

  5. I have these rulers! I don't have a Layer Cake. But, I have plenty of fabric though. I'll try to join in on the quilt along. It all depends upon my circumstances (we just put an offer on a house). It should be fun!

  14. Finished my first twister quilt. Pleased for the most part, but be sure your contrasting fabrics don't have too many colors in common. Some of my pinwheels are harder to see.
    Love the tool!

  17. I would love to participate (now that I have time!)- but can't justify the cost of a new ruler right now... So I will admire from afar! Enjoy! I cant wait to see what y'all come up with! <3

  22. The Twister Bug bit me last week and I started one!! Of course I couldn't make a small one, and I did more squares, so now I'm hoping that I haven't bit off more than I can chew:-D I'm making it with the smaller tool, and I'll let you all know how many blocks I have in it later, when I count them!! thanks for sponsoring this: I've been looking for some good pics of Twister quilts and haven't found many, so this will be great!!

  24. OH gosh Sharon. I just now found your quilt along. I bought the Lil' twister a few months ago. I only have 1 layer cake but need to check which fabric line it was. It may not work for the baby quilt I am going to make.

Will there be instructions if we use something other than a layer cake possibly? I have a fat quarter bundle that I have been thinking of using for this Granddaughter's quilt. I just hadn't decided yet on that bundle or if I wanted to use another fabric.

    Thanks Sharon.

  25. Oh my gosh...everyone at my LQS picks at me and calls me "the twister queen"...I bought both of these rulers two years ago in a "stuff your stocking" promo and they just sat around for about a year. Then I found out how easy they were to use and I can't stop making twisters. I have 3 quilts going right now and 27 twister mug rugs in the works for my garden club party. They are both easy to use but I really love the small twister the most. The large one takes so much space to work out and then re-cut. I have to go to LQS to lay them out and cut. But I have done so many small ones that I can lay them out, cut them and sew in 3 mornings before I go to work. Starts my day out right when I see them...they make me giggle. I love to try new fabric combinations. So I will be taking part and loving every minute of it. Thanks so much for doing this quilt-along.
